Bookings for public campsites in parks
When I was at the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (DWNP) office in Maun in October 2008 I noticed a fax that was put up on the wall. The text of this fax read the following:
NOTICE: Please informed that the Department of Wildlife and National Parks is in the process of privatizing the operation and management of the campsites and campgrounds in our National Parks and Game Reserves. We are currently in the process of handing over our reservations system to private companies and as a result we are not making any bookings for our parks and reserves with the exception of Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. We can however take your details and forward them to the Tour operators who will be managing the campsites. We regret any inconvenience caused.
Although it took a long time to implement this it seems that at the time of writing this article in March 2010 implementation of this policy has started.
I've included the situation as it stands in March 2010 on this page, but make sure to check with the DWNP for up to date information when you want to make a booking.
