Ihaha campsite
If you want to camp at the riverfront then you have exactly one option and that is Ihaha campsite. Ihaha was built in the 1990's and replaced the old campsite at Serondela. Ihaha campsite is located some 35 kilometers west of Kasane and overlooks the Chobe river. You have a nice view of the Caprivi strip on the Northern side of the Chobe river. It's a very nice campsite that used to be very modern. Unfortunately the solar power cells that were provided by the European Union have all disappeared so there is no hot water or electricity anymore. Another minus for me was that the Caprivi strip is cattle land and that meant that you could see cows graze on the other side of the river. That spoilt the whole wildlife experience a bit for me. It is also the only campsite which I've stayed at in Botswana where you have cell reception (the signal comes from the Caprivi strip).
When you arrive in Ihaha make sure that you report to reception. If you don't report to reception they don't know that you have arrived and they may give your campsite to somebody else. Lots of people take chances and go to Ihaha without a confirmed booking so make sure that you reconfirm your booking when you arrive. At the time of writing this article the bookings for Ihaha are being handled by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (DWNP). This will most probably change in the near future though as DWNP is outsourcing the management of campgrounds. Check this article for more information.
