How to get there

I've only travelled to the Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR) from Maun so I can only comment on that route.
Maun to Matswere gate
From Maun take the tar road leading to Nata. After 82km you'll get to a turnoff to the right which is marked 'Motopi'. Take that turnoff and follow the road for about 3 kilometers. You'll cross the Boteti river and just beyond the bridge you'll have to turn left to the village of Motopi. Follow this road via Mareomaoto, Khumaga and Tsoe to Rakops. When you get to Rakops you have to turn right to get to the CKGR (which is signposted) but you might want to drive on to Rakops (2km) to refuel as this is your last chance to refuel before entering the CKGR. The road is tarred up to Rakops (214km). From Rakops you'll have to drive an additional 54km to Matswere gate over a generally goos but in some areas very sandy road. The most problematic area of this road is right at the turnoff from the tar road. You have to drive through a small pan which can be extremely mussy during the rainy season. The whole trip from Maun to Matswere gate will take you around four hours.
Nata to Matswere gate
The Motopi turnoff from the Nata to Maun road is 223km from Maun. From this turnoff follow the same directions as described above from Maun.
