VuyatelaIn Djuma we stayed at Vuyatela game lodge for four nights. Vuyatela means "come and visit again", a term that typifies African hospitality. We had always wanted to go to a private lodge, but had never actually stayed in one before we came to Vuyatela. On our previous trips to South Africa we'd always stayed in the National Parks like the Kruger and the Kgalagadi. I must say that I was afraid that Vuyatela would be a bit to upmarket for us(in other words for the rich and spoilt tourists), but we had the most amazing time there. The atmosphere in the lodge is so relaxed that you'd almost forget that you're staying in a such an upmarket lodge. Everything is done by the staff to make you feel at home. Everything about Vuyatela is absolutely spot on, the food and service is excellent, the game drives are perfect, and the chalets are amazing. We'll definitely go back to Vuyatela on one of our next visits to South Africa.

The chalets

In Vuyatela you stay in a chalet, or "Kaya" (Shangaan word for house). The chalets, with private deck, pool and detached sitting room, are very luxiourious but stillreflect local architecture. Builders used corrugated iron and mud to achieve an authentic effect without sacrificing luxury in any way. The suites are made up of bedroom, dressing room, bathroom, lounge, private viewing deck and plunge pool.
