Molopo LodgeIf you're planning a trip to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and you're not sure if you'll be able to make it to the park before the gate at Twee Rivieren closes then you might want to consider staying at Molopo Lodge. This lodge is situated at the beginning of the road from Askham to Twee Rivieren. From Molopo Lodge it's about a 60km drive to the KTP entrance gate at Twee Rivieren. The access road to the Twee Rivieren gate is under construction at the moment (Feb 2008), once construction has finished the road will be tarred right up to the gate. At this moment only a part of the road is tarred and it will take you about an hour to drive from Molopo Lodge to the gate at Twee Rivieren.

I stayed at Molopo Lodge in December 2007 and was impressed with the lodge. The staff was very friendly, the chalet was clean and the food at the restaurant was good. The lodge is reasonably priced, I paid R250.00 per person per night. Breakfast was R40.00 per person. I didn't have breakfast so I can't comment about the quality of the breakfast. The best part of Molopo lodge is the swimming pool. When I was there in December '07 the temperature was 41C so the refreshing the pool was very welcome. There is a petrol station at Molopo but by the looks of it petrol hasn't been sold there in years.

I found only one thing wrong with Molopo lodge and that was the number of mosquitos. The chalet that we were in (3C) was infested with mosquitos. Mozzie nets were not provided so we had to rely on Peaceful Sleep and Doom. In the morning it turned out that wasn't enough of a deterent for the mozzies :( I think Molopo should provide mosquito nets in the chalets, but otherwise it's a very nice lodge.

You can find the Molopo Lodge website here. Through this website you can request information and make bookings.
