Sabi Sand - General Information
The Sabi Sands is undoubtedly the most exclusive private reserve in South Africa. The reserve is located on the south west corner of the Kruger National park. No fences exist between the Kruger national park and the Sabi Sands. Animals can cross from the Kruger into the Sabi Sands and the other way around. For me the main attraction of the Sabi Sands are the leopards. The leopards in the reserve are so accustomed to cars that they don't take any notice of them. Even when hunting a leopard in the Sabi Sands will not mind a vehicle following it, not even if this means following it off-road though the bush. You will not find this anywhere else in South Africa!
Lodges
I stayed in just three of the many lodges that are available in the Sabi Sands. In July of 2002 I stayed in Vuyatela which is part of the Djuma game reserve. In May 2006 I visited Djuma Game Reserve again and this time I stayed in Bush Lodge. In the period 2002-2005 I stayed at Elephant Plains lodge six times. You can find information about these wonderful lodges using the links on the left of this page.
